Electrical and electronic components are often cast, potted, or encapsulated in two-component epoxies, urethanes, silicones, or other reactive resins, so they can be used in hazardous areas or underwater, for example.
Perfect insulation of the electronic components requires an even, void-free material structure of the potting, encapsulating resin. Air inclusions, voids, and bubbles would have an adverse effect on the structure and on the mechanical and electrical properties of the electronic device.
Casting, Potting, and Encapsulating under vacuum offers the advantage that components with narrow gaps, small holes, or angular shapes can be cast quickly. Typical applications involving vacuum casting and potting & encapsulating under vacuum are ignition coils, transformers, computer chips, sensors, and electrical devices. Electronics encapsulation using vacuum technology often makes casting a viable option for the first time.
Potting or casting of components is the ideal method to protect sensitive electronic components – like PCBs, sensors, LEDs, and more – from moisture, dust, or shocks.
Another application is the sealing of filter elements; while the product and application are completely different, the process is basically the same.
As for bonding and sealing applications, encapsulation materials are also formulated by the specific requirements of the final product. Casting resins such as silicones, polyurethanes, or epoxy resins are precisely metered to either fill the complete housing or
coat only partial elements of the surface with the right amount of material. Quality and process reliability are key for each casting process. The material must be metered in the right quantity, be applied in the correct position, and at the right time – with reproducible accuracy. Therefore, we are a preferred supplier of metering and mixing systems for many industries and offer a wide range of products and systems for the processing of casting resins. From simple manual applications to fully automated complete solutions with robot cells, including pretreatment and process monitoring.
