A typical application of our equipment is the Potting, Encapsulation of high voltage transformers with abrasive resins, dispensing of heavily filled resins, potting equipment. For transformer potting process both open pour and under vacuum, Kirkco offers a variety of custom configured encapsulation equipment solutions.

Our systems are configured from standard platforms around the need of the project. Depending on the characteristics of the single or two component resin being processed, we will use volumetric gear pumps, progressive cavity pumps, and rod metering or chop check pumps metering systems, to control the mix ratio accurately and precisely.

Depending on the advanced chemistry being used, abrasive epoxy resins or polyurethane encapsulating adhesive, potting transformers will require the need to mix the chemistry completely and homogeneously. Kirkco offer two-component and plural component mixing systems installed on each meter/mixing/ and dispensing, proportioning unit. Our transformer potting, encapsulation equipment can be fitted with a twin material dispensing valves in a variety of sizes which operate with flushable or disposable static-mixers, dynamic mixing-head valves with a variety of chamber sizes and drives, and Static Dynamic valves with disposable rotary static mixers.

A variety of configurable feed systems are used to supply transformer potting, encapsulation resin to the metering system. By receiving each component of the transformer potting resin, A & B directly from their original containers, the system will allow for continuous, large volume pours for the largest application requirement. Each specific feeding system component utilizes similar elements for supplying and processing the transformer potting resin. Each case will be designed according to the specifications of the material, the mixing ratio and output flow.

Vacuum Potting Equipment

Electrical and electronic components are often cast, potted, or encapsulated, in two-component, epoxies, urethanes, silicones, or other reactive resins, so they can be used in hazardous areas or under water for example.

Perfect insulation of the electronic components requires an even void free material structure of the potting, encapsulating, resin. Air inclusions, voids, bubbles, would have an adverse effect on the structure and on the mechanical and electrical properties of the electronic device.

Casting, Potting, Encapsulating under vacuum offers the advantage that components with narrow gaps, small holes or angular shapes can be cast quickly. Typical applications involving vacuum casting and potting & encapsulating under vacuum are ignition coils, transformers, computer chips, sensors, and electrical devices. Electronics encapsulation using vacuum technology often makes casting a viable option for the first time.

In two-component processing, the A and B components must first be evacuated to achieve optimum results. Reactive resin dispensing, potting equipment, encapsulation equipment, adhesive dispensing equipment and vacuum potting equipment are used for this purpose. Several steps are taken to ensure air-free potting compound before casting under vacuum creating the right conditions for the production of high quality electrical and electronic assemblies.

Automatic Vacuum Chamber

Manual and Automatic Vaccume Chamber MachineryKirkco Offers Manual and Automatic Vacuum Chambers consist of a 150 liter housing with a transparent door. This allows you to watch the casting process, and the interior lighting improves visibility. A manually operated turntable and a dispensing valve ensure simple operation. A variant with static mixer unit has a twin dispensing valve with static mixer tube. The valve is designed to generate a snuff back effect on closing and hence prevent drips from the end of the mixer tube. No flushing required.

With Automatic Turntable to optimize the casting system, further positioning sliders are provided with various outlet valves. The slider, controlled via a linear potentiometer, allows the outlet valve to reach any point on the turntable. An X-Y process unit can be integrated into the vacuum chamber via a rigid parts holder instead of the turntable.

An extensive range of accessories is available for product-specific adaptation of the vacuum chamber to the operating requirements. The vacuum chamber must always be used in conjunction with a KIRKCO Metering and Mixing system. A PLC allows the use of up to 160 positions on the turntable for smooth production in short cycle times.

To insure a successful complete void free potting or encapsulation application, Kirkco can integrating a vacuum chamber with the correctly sized meter, mix system to provide an excellent solution to encapsulate or pot electronic circuits in a controlled atmosphere. Our applications engineer can provide you with the solutions and support needed for your application.
